Otto Linne Award for Urban Landscape Architecture
Hamburg’s Otto Linne Prize will once again be awarded for the first time since 1997. The international gartenschau hamburg 2013 gmbh, together with the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg’s Ministry of City Development and Environment will award the prize for urban landscape architecture. The ideas competition is intended to promote young talent in this discipline and is therefore directed at students and young graduates (up to the age of 36) of landscape architecture who have studied in Germany and abroad.
The Otto Linne Prize for Urban Landscape Architecture is named after Hamburg’s first garden director Otto Linne (1869 – 1937), who, with his progressive ideas, plans and designs, played a decisive role in the development and advancement of Hamburg’s urban open space (examples include Hayns Park and Hammer Park).
In recognition of Otto Linne’s 140th birthday, Hamburg would like to encourage interested participants to investigate the water-bearing hillside located between the Elbe and the Rose Garden in the dynamic quarter of Ottensen.
Participants should pay special attention to the special hydrological situation and the historical development of the area, and should upgrade and develop the site into Altona’s new water terraces.
As a part of an existing green corridor, the terraces will become an important link between a pathway along the Elbe and the urban neighbourhood to the north.
Ideas, Planning, Visions
An emphasis will be placed on innovative and experimental approaches which promise new impulses and do justice to the requirements of sustainable, environmentally appropriate landscape architecture. Winning solutions should test the limits of technology and the imagination.
Successful planning concepts will exhibit all the facets of urban mixed-use and provide for a high-quality and forward-looking garden in the green metropolis on the water.
