igs 2013 - In 80 Gardens Around the World

From April through to October 2013 Hamburg will once again host an International Garden Show. The igs 2013 will not only be about gardens and flowers – the main aim is the creation of a public park of the 21st century on an island in the river Elbe, Wilhelmsburg is Europe’s largest river island. The site already hints at the fact that the attractive combination of water and green, so typical of Hamburg, will come into its own.

Added to this will be the latest advancements with regards to human fitness in the open air and spa treatments in pleasant surroundings. Apart from its island situation, Wilhelmsburg is also influenced by its international population and the nearby port. This inspired the slogan of the igs 2013 “In 80 Gardens Around the World”. During the Show Hamburg will be the centre of an international network of actions.

Co-operation projects in Greater Hamburg will be initiated and will benefit both the local population and Hamburg’s guests. Inside the showground Show Gardens and virtual travel will take visitors to foreign shores.

The responsibility for the competent implementation of these projects lies with the “igs hamburg 2013 gmbh” and its team. This limited company was founded in early 2007. Alongside the igs 2013, an International Building Exhibition,
the “IBA Hamburg”, will present models for successful co-habition of an international population and for the environmentally friendly and sustainable development of cities.
